Introduction

Today’s operating systems are consisted of millions of lines of code so it is always increased the chances of some lines are not written well, incorrect or incomplete. This does not necessarily mean that operating systems will not work… The user usually does not “feel” the deficiencies of the software. Good programmers know how to hide any defects of their code. The danger is that the imperfections are backdoors for malware and unexplained lockdowns and problems in the use of our computer hardware.

For these reasons, operating systems have an Update Manager to download security updates, bug fixes, new versions of programs and new features of their operating systems. In Linux operating system these problems have minimal importance because the code is open. This is a huge advantage that ensure continuous improvement and maintainability of quality cause as many “eyes” see the code, the better the outcome of the code will be.

Description

The 2clickUpdate (pronounced: double-click-update) using the power of “apt-get” speeds up the updating of the operating system and programs installed without bothering you with “trivial” confirmation messages. Also it cleans your disk of all waste generated by updating procedures.

Its available in two flavors:

The 2clickUpdate is the version recommended for all. It has a graphical user interface and works just by double-clicking it.

The 2clickUpdate CORE, on the other hand, has no GUI. Its intended to be used through terminal:

• Βy experienced users that want more control over what they are doing
• For use on Servers that do not have User Interface
• For use on Workstations by Administrators that don’t want to disturb users with system update notifications
• For use with Cron to schedule automatic updates on any preferable day and hour.

How to use:

For 2click Update

Unzip the downloaded file wherever you want. Right-click the file auto_dependency_installer.sh -> Properties -> Privileges tab -> Select the “Allow to run the file as a program” -> Close. To run the script double click 2clickUpdate_xx_.sh, select “Run” and enter your password if prompted. This way, all the reacquired dependencies of 2clickUpdate will be automatically instaled

Last, right-click the file 2clickUpdate_xx_.sh -> Properties -> Privileges tab -> Select the “Allow to run the file as a program” -> Close. To run the script double click 2clickUpdate_xx.sh, select “Run” and enter your password if prompted.

For 2click Update CORE

Using the command cd navigate in terminal to the folder that you have 2clickUpdate_xx.sh Then make it executable by running “chmod +x 2clickUpdate_xx.sh”  To run the application just type ./2clickUpdate_xx_.sh

Zenity (it is preinstalled in Gnome environments)

Deborphan (available through your package manager)

libnotify-bin (available through your package manager)
